Shirts, T-Shirts & Suits

Men's upper-body sizes — collar, chest and continental detail

Dress shirts by collar, T-shirts by chest-alpha, suits by chest across EU, UK/US, JP and KR — plus the continental short/standard/tall modifiers.

Dress Shirts — By Neck / Collar

Dress shirt size is the collar (neck) circumference. UK/US use inches, EU uses cm. Sleeve length is a separate second number.

The collar is the anchor

For a dress shirt, read the collar first. A 15 in collar ≈ 38 cm ≈ size M. Sleeve length (e.g. 60/62/64 cm) is separate.

T-Shirts & Sports Shirts — By Chest

Casual knitwear is labelled by chest circumference mapped to a letter, on a different scale than the dress-shirt collar.

T-shirt ≠ collar

A "M" on a T-shirt ≈ 100 cm chest; "M" on a dress shirt ≈ 38 cm collar — different garments, different scales.

Sweaters & Jackets

Sweaters use an overlapping EU → UK/US letter scale. When EU 52 appears in both L and XL, check the cm chest column.

Suits, Blazers & Overcoats

Suit sizing is chest-driven across EU, UK/US, JP, KR. EU = UK/US chest(in) + 10 roughly; Japan runs UK/US + 2 below 44.

Suit quick rule

EU = UK/US + 10 for the chest code (EU 50 = UK/US 40). Use the chest cm to confirm when KR/JP diverge.

Continental European Men's Detail

French sizes for Belgian makers; German sizes for Austrian, Dutch, Scandinavian. Suit formulas: FR = (chest cm + 1)/2, DE = (chest cm − 1)/2. Body modifiers — kurz (short), Bauchgröße (portly), lang (tall/lean) — give separate rows.

A real EU 50 suit

Standard EU 50 targets 98–101 cm chest, 86–89 cm waist, 102–105 cm hip, 174–179 cm height — i.e. UK/US 40 / JP 42 / KR 100. A short version of the same chest is a different code.

Fit & Common Mistakes

Fit & common mistakes

  • Collar + sleeve are two separate numbers on a dress shirt — don't conflate them.
  • Suit chest is the jacket's body code, not the wearer's overcoat — verify with cm.
  • Alpha buckets differ per garment: a "L" is 54 in suits but 46/48 in sweaters. Always read the garment row.
  • JP/KR use different numeric bases for suits (JP 40, KR 100 = EU 50) — don't assume all numbers agree.
  • EU size ≠ EU chest girth. On Continental labels the code (e.g. 50) and chest cm (98–101) are different numbers — trust the cm.
